December 2017 Shipment Report
To close out 2017 shipments moved down -21.6% in December over November, but the 1,263 homes shipped in the month was a full 44% higher than December of 2016.
Total shipments for the year came in at 16,197 homes, which is a 28.3% increase over 2016 and amounts to an additional 3,568 homes shipped across the state of Texas.
While shipments for FEMA MHUs have certainly pushed single-section shipments up, a look back at the August numbers before those shipments would have started reveals that single-section homes were already up 19.1% at that time, and have since moved up 36.9% year-over-year. Multi-section shipments, that would not have seen any increase from FEMA activity, expanded another 2% from August, going from 16.3% growth to 18.4% growth to end the year.
With the factories across the state trending the way they have, MLS inventory for housing in the state looking right in line with 2016, the Dallas Fed forecasting 2.8% job growth, and titling data looking very healthy for the counties effected by Hurricane Harvey, we expect continued growth for the industry in 2018.
