August 2017 Shipment Report

August shipments were up across the board, with single and multi-section shipments posting large gains over July (a month that includes a week shutdown in production for most if not all plants in the state). The total of 1,421 homes shipped puts August right in line with the monthly totals we saw in May and June, and was 24.1% higher than August of last year. Multi-section and single-section shipments have been moving more or less in unison over the past three months, which I take as a good sign that 2017s strong shipment numbers are not just inventory driven.

Hurricane Harvey landed in Texas on Aug. 25th, so I expect to see the impact from the storm present in next month’s numbers. Prior to Harvey, the Texas economy was expanding and the word in the room at our Annual Convention in Dallas last month was that backlogs were long getting longer.
