December 2017 Reports and January Preliminary Data
New titles in December moved down 14.4% from November with a decline in both single and multi-section homes. The 905 new homes titled for the month were up 9.8% over December of 2016.
Despite seeing significant decreases in installations from November, Harris, Orange and Montgomery counties landed in the top three spots for December. Travis and Brazoria counties rounded out the top five with Ector and Liberty counties not far behind.
With this release we mark the official end of 2017 reporting and new titles came in at 13,283. That’s a 6.3% increase from 2016 with annual gains for both single-section homes (+8.5%) and multi-section homes (+4.0%).
There was a slight reordering of the top ten counties for new home installations for the year. Dallas and Hays counties dropped out as Midland and Orange counties moved in.
Beginning with the April report we’ve been tracking the rise in cash sales for 2017. At that time cash sales were up 15.9% YoY and though they didn’t remain that high in comparison, they still ended the year up 10% over 2016. There were 4,285 new homes purchased without a lien attached and that accounts for 32.3% of all new home titles for 2017.
We’ve also been tracking the year-over-year changes in property type elections for 2017 titles. Below are the numbers through December 2017:
