TREO Reviewing All State Agencies, including MH TDHCA and IHB of TDLR
DJ Pendleton
Created in 2025 out of S.B. 14, the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO) is a new department within the governor’s office. They are tasked with reducing, “regulatory burdens and unnecessary rules and increase transparency for Texas taxpayers.”
TREO has already reviewed 11 state agencies with 14 more coming in the near future. In the second round, which is in process currently, both TDHCA and TDLR are under review. Preliminary recommendations from TREO have come to stakeholders to review, including TMHA. The next steps will be for the respective boards over these agencies to initiate a formal rule writing process. These will be posted and reviewed, as well as public comments, and publishing. So, while still a little way off, we expect that rule revisions are coming.
