November 2020 Texas Legislature Election Results

I know nearly all eyes are still transfixed on the handful of states still counting votes in the presidential election.  And while those results are not yet known, we do now know the results of the races for the Texas state legislature.

TEXAS STATE SENATE

 MAKEUP BY PARTY:   

 The Texas Senate currently has 19 Republicans and 12 Democrats.   In 2021, the Texas Senate will have 18 Republicans and 13 Democrats.

15 Incumbent Members of the Texas Senate Were Not on the 2020 Ballot:

New Members of the Texas Senate in 2021:

Senate District 14 – Sarah Eckhardt (D-Austin)

Senate District 19 – Roland Gutierrez (D-San Antonio)

Senate District 29 – Cesar Blanco (D-El Paso)

Senate District 30 – Special Election Run-Off December 19, 2020. The seat will remain Republican because both Run-Off contenders are Republican.

MAKEUP BY PARTY:

The Texas House currently has 83 Republicans and 67 Democrats.

In 2021, the House will again have 83 Republicans and 67 Democrats. The Republicans picked up one seat in Houston, and the Democrats picked up one seat in Houston.
