Government Shutdown Could Impact Availability of HUD Labels on New Homes

MHI has informed all states that due to the current government shutdown the Institute of Building Technology and Safety (IBTS) has received a “Stop Work Order” from HUD.  Until further notice from HUD, there will be no contractor support for the monitoring services for manufactured housing.

This work stoppage precludes IBTS from being able to fulfill any certification label orders until it is directed to resume work.  IPIA’s that have received labels and not paid for them, can utilize pay.gov to pay invoices.  However no new labels can be issued at this time.

Estimates vary, but on average with agencies and factories there is approximately 1-2 months’ worth of existing label stock.  If the shutdown continues beyond current stocking levels, factories’ ability to ship new homes could be impeded in the relatively near future.
