New titles slipped in July from both the previous month (-9.5%) and from July of 2016 (-6.9%). The declines for the state were present in both single and multi-section homes. With July’s numbers included new titles for 2017 are tracking up 3.4% over 2016 with the 8.5% gains in single-section titles offsetting the -2% decrease in multi-section homes.
The top five counties for new installations all showed increases, but the next four counties in the top ten: Ector (-20%), Bastrop (-13.6%), Brazoria (-26.9%), and Midland (-18.2%), all had large declines. Brazos (-33.3%), Williamson (-20%), Hidalgo (-33.3%), Hays (-37.5%), and Tarrant (-52.4%) counties also had large month-over-month declines from June’s new installations.
The top three counties for the month: Harris, Montgomery, and Liberty, are all top five counties on the year and are all on FEMA’s Harvey disaster declaration list. Harvey’s impact should start showing up in the titling data starting next month to a limited degree, and fully in September’s report.
The preliminary data for new titles in August is tracking 21.5% above July, but down -6% from August of 2016.
